FORGET the usual road trip! A Malaysian man upped the ante for a lunch date with friends, arriving at a Langkawi restaurant in style – by helicopter!

A video uploaded by the restaurant, Dangau Langkawi, captured the scene. Restaurant owner Zaidi Hassan couldn’t believe his eyes as a sleek AS365N Airbus helicopter touched down just meters away.

The clip shows Zaidi and a customer eagerly watching the helicopter land, followed by a group of men enjoying their meal. Zaidi even managed to snag a photo with the high-flying diner before they departed.

Speaking to NST, Zaidi recounted his disbelief after receiving a call from the customer who announced his arrival by helicopter.

“I thought it was a joke!” he admitted. The caller requested the restaurant’s set lunch and inquired about a landing spot.

True to his word, the helicopter arrived 15 minutes later, touching down in an open field near the restaurant.

Six people emerged from the helicopter, joined later by a group who arrived by car.

While Zaidi didn’t recognize any of the diners, he overheard one being addressed as a “Datuk,“ a title signifying high social standing.

Despite the luxurious arrival, the group enjoyed a relatively simple meal – the restaurant’s set lunch featuring fish curry, sambal prawns, grilled fish, and local accompaniments – for around RM500.

Local authorities confirmed that the helicopter flight was authorised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

This viral story is a reminder that sometimes, the journey can be just as exciting as the destination!
