EUFF returns with showcase of 21 films

THE EUROPEAN Union Film Festival (EUFF) returns once more to selected Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) outlets in major cities nationwide, including Johor Baru this year, beginning Oct 18.
Now into its 19th year in Malaysia, the EUFF will take place in the Klang Valley (Oct 18-28), George Town (Nov 1-7), Johor Baru (Nov 15-18), Kuching (Nov 22-28), and Kota Kinabalu (Dec 6-12).
Catch 21 award-winning films from 17 European countries, including the non-EU nations of Switzerland and Norway.
They range from animation to drama, romance, comedy, adventure, as well as documentaries.
One of them, Loving Vincent, is a beautifully-rendered animation about the life of Dutch Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh done in the style of his paintings. This animated feature is a joint-production of Poland, the Netherlands and France.
In conjunction with the screening of Loving Vincent, the Embassy of the Netherlands organised a series of art workshops for refugee children in Malaysia.
The children's van Gogh-inspired paintings will be part of a silent auction at the EUFF's Kuala Lumpur launch tomorrow, with the proceeds going to the aid of these refugee children.
Meanwhile, of the 21 films, eight will be screened free at participating cinemas.
They are Anka (Croatia); Kinscem, Bet on Revenge (Hungary); Friends by Chance (Italy); Quo Vado? (Italy); Selfie and Breaking News (Romania); Miss Kiet's Children (the Netherlands); as well as My Big Night (Spain).
Coupons for the free screenings can be printed or downloaded from euff.com.my, and redeemed at the participating GSC ticketing counters on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets for the other films go on sale today.
