KUALA LUMPUR: The government is studying to find the best alternative to reduce the people's burden, especially on the toll issue, now that the move to abolish the toll has been shelved, said Works Minister Baru Bian.
He said the alternatives included reducing the toll rate, imposing a flat toll rate and providing discount during off-peak period.
"Another (alternative) is to not increase toll rate for a certain period, these are being discussed,' he said during the Ministers' Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Muslimin Yahaya (PH-Sungai Besar), who wanted to know measures taken by the government to ensure abolishment of the toll as promised by Pakatan Harapan (PH) in its 14th general election manifesto.
Baru told the House that the government, had in principle, decided not to abolish the toll until the country's financial situation was stable. — Bernama
