KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (pix) today said young military officers should continue to improve their knowledge regarding the military so that they would become more sensitive to any development in the current defence technology.

As military officers with university degrees, he also hoped that the country's defence forces would be more capable in facing future career challenges with full confidence and self-resilience.
"As we all know, the military profession is a unique career. This career emphasises on two important elements, namely military skills and professional expertise in the various fields such as engineering, science and strategic management.

"The merger of these two elements will give an effect to the efforts at enhancing the country's defence capability. I hope that with the knowledge that you all have, the armed forces will gain credibility and respect," the King said at the royal commissioning and passing out parade for officer cadets and graduate officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces 2016 at the Sungai Besi Camp, here today.

The text of his speech was read by the Tengku Panglima Besar of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim.

Tuanku Abdul Halim wanted them to be more proactive in helping to plan the future of the Armed Forces to familiarise with the new forms of threats that had begun to be felt in the current globalisation process.

He also reminded the graduates to always look after their personal values and morals so that they would not fall into the trap of undesired elements.

"The integrity and image of the Armed Forces can be jeopardised by the actions of a handful of immoral officers who are untrusworthy," he said.

At the event, Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz presented the instrument of commission to 368 military officers including 85 women who had completed their military training and academic studies in the fields of engineering and management.

Senior Under Officer Muhammad Aliff Zailan Zamri was chosen as the Overall Best Cadet Officer; Senior Under Officer Nur Izzuddin Kamarozaman as the Best Army Cadet Officer; Senior Cadet Officer Muhammad Ashraf Hassan as the Best Navy Cadet Officer and Junior Under Officer Mohamad Asmaie Sahabudin as the Best Air Force Cadet Officer. — Bernama
