JOHOR BARU: Budget hotel operators in Johor have been advised against turning their premises into transit centres for illegal immigrants.

North Johor Baharu district police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said this following the arrest of 47 illegal immigrants from Indonesia at two budget hotels near Tampoi last Friday.

He said the immigrants, comprising 38 men, eight women and a one-year-old boy, were believed to have boarded a boat from Tanjung Pinang, Indonesia, and arrived in the country last Friday.

They were then taken to the hotels while waiting to be sent to other locations in the country, he said today.

He said the raid at the hotels were conducted following public tip-offs. – Bernama
