Plantation worker charged with providing militant training

    PETALING JAYA: A plantation worker was charged at the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Kangsar with providing militant training for terrorism purpose in December last year.
    Muamar Gadaffi Mohamed Shafawi, 30, was charged with the offence at Bukit Ara Para in Kampung Ketior Dalam here between 2pm and 4pm from Dec 25 to 27 last year.
    The charge was read under Section 130 F(c) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and fine if convicted.
    No plea was recorded and Magistrate Noordura Mohamed Din set July 18 for mention.
    Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court in Kuala Kangsar, two men pleaded guilty to several charges of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.
    In the first case, rubber tapper Mohamad Amin Abdul Rahman, 29, pleaded guilty to a charge of illegal possession of a homemade 0.22-calibre gun at No 54, Kampung Kelebor here between 1.45pm and 2.15pm on June 18.
    He pleaded guilty to illegally possessing 41 counts of 0.22-calibre bullets and seven 12 Gauge bullets at the same time and venue.
    Mohamad Amin was also charged with illegally possessing a homemade shotgun and 23 Gauge bullets between 11.30am and noon on June 25 at the same place.
    He pleaded guilty.
    Plantation worker Abdul Rahman Ramli, 46, pleaded guilty to possessing some 293 counts of 0.22 bullets behind Lot 1547, No 46, Kampung Sementa, Kuala Kenas here between 6pm and 6.30pm on June 25 and one SME 9mm bullet between 8pm and 9pm the same day.
    The charges, read under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960, provide for a maximum jail term of seven years, or fine not more than RM10,000 or both, upon conviction.
    Judge Johari Hassan, who oversee both cases, set July 25 for sentencing. – Bernama
